New York City – Endless Inspiration

At Leslie Schofield Studio, we believe that for a design journey to be successful it should be filled with inspiration and collaboration at every turn. Recently, some of our design team embarked on a trip to New York City, not only to meet with clients but to explore the city’s renowned design showrooms and discover the latest trends in the industry.

Our visit kicked off with Leslie (Principal and Founder), Matt Dickamore (Design Director), and Amanda Edwards (Senior Designer) meeting in Manhattan with our former Design Director, Becky Yager, who put together a comprehensive and inspiring agenda for our first few days in the city.

We had the pleasure of spending time connecting with vendors, exploring showrooms and seeing products and lines that we do not have access to in Salt Lake City (yet!).

Getting to see some of Jane Puylagrade’s beautiful work in person was awe inspiring. Although we have a small piece of Jane’s work in our office, getting to witness the scale of these pieces, meet with the Artist’s assistant and share the art with our client was an absolute treat.

New York, obviously, is known as a mecca for many industries and a hot spot for hustle, but the thing that we always find ourselves appreciating here, and on this trip especially, is the overwhelming quality. There is no lack of attention to detail in every aspect. From immersive floor to ceiling wallpapers at the de Gournay showroom to possibly the most beautiful lighting details imaginable at the Apparatus showroom. Everywhere you look there is layer upon layer of thoughtful design candy.

After several days of pre-shopping we met our fabulous clients in the city bringing them to see, in-person, the fixtures, finishes and details that will be features of their future home. Being able to sit on sofas and get a true sense of touch provides a deeper connection to the pieces being designed. And while that is the primary purpose of trips like these, getting to connect with our clients on a more personal level is invaluable. As we walk, eat, observe, tour, talk and shop it gives us a better sense of who they are, how they think, what they love and ultimately gives us a stronger opportunity to reflect their vision and exceed their expectations in every aspect of their home.

As we return to our studio, we bring home pieces of a city that embodies innovation, creativity, and limitless possibilities. Stay tuned as we unveil our upcoming projects inspired by our journey through New York City.

‘Til next time new York City!
